This course focuses on studies of canonical postcolonial literary novels in English literature by authors from the British ex-colonies. The discussion on the significance of studying these works becomes one of the things emphasised in this course, to show how postcolonial studies can potentially be a study that is able to accommodate the perception from a region with colonial history. The works discussed are namely novels by Caribbean, Srilankan, South African, and Indian authors. At the end of this course, students are projected to understand the socio-cultural and political contexts behind the works discussed and to critically explain the significance of those contexts in a humanistic perception towards the tensions occurred in world history in general and Indonesian history in particular.
